Your Days Are Numbered

David says in Psalm 39:4, “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.” Psalm 147:4,5 says, “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our lord and mighty in power, his understanding has no limit.” Psalm 139:4-6 says, “Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. You hem me in-behind and before; you have laid your hand before me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, to lofty for me to attain.” All of these scriptures testify to the infinite wisdom and knowledge that our Lord and Creator possess. The days of our lives truly are numbered. He has set us in this place for such a time as this.

 A Short Work

It is a fact this generation is closer to the return of Jesus than any generation in all of history. Jesus is coming soon. One commentator says, “The return of Christ is mentioned more times (318) in the New Testament than any other doctrine…” (John Hagee Prophecy Study Bible, p.1475). The Bible also speaks of the Lord doing a short work on the earth. To us as believers it may seem as though Christ may not return for quite some time. But the truth is, He is near, even at the doors. In the book of Romans Paul speaks to his audience about the type of work that God is doing on the earth. This is what he says, “…Though the number of children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant will be saved, for He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.” Romans 9:27-28 NKJV. We as believers are at the forefront of history. We have a short time left to work for the Lord. Lets get busy about the Lord’s business, the business of souls.

A Precious Death

To believers in the western part of the world martyrdom fades in the distance. It is not really some thing that we as westerners are used to dealing with. But the Church as a body is suffering around the globe. Especially in China we see a massacre of innocent lives, dying for the cause of Christ. Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” KJV. Philippians 1:21 says, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” KJV. If more than a dozen terrorists can offer their lives up to a false god for the purpose of destroying the twin towers and as a result thousands of innocent lives; how much more should we be willing to offer our lives up as “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1 KJV. Along those same lines in John 12:24,25 our Lord Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” NIV. Unless we die to ourselves, the gospel message will not effectively multiplied. But if we do allow the Lord to do His work in and through us, we will reap the end time harvest with bountiful results.

Help Us God!

A Prayer: “Help us Lord to know that our days are numbered in your infinite might. Help us Lord to see that our days are short, so that we might share your truth with urgency. Help us Lord to die to self that we might bear much fruit for your Kingdom. And Help us Lord to let love increase that we might know You.”
